Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations organized by high schools and colleges throughout the United States and globally. In this program, students debate issues that face the international community today, ranging from climate change to security in the Middle East. Mira Costa High School's Model United Nations program is consistently ranked among the nation's best, regularly earning top delegation awards at prestigious national and international conferences including Harvard MUN and the National High School Model United Nations.
Tryout Information
To participate in our Advanced Model United Nations program, students must have completed one semester of the elective course “Intro to Model UN” and participate in the tryout MUN debate held every May. Acceptance in the program depends on the student’s performance in the tryout debate and overall performance throughout the semester. Invitations to participate in the Advanced MUN program are issued directly by the lead teachers.
If the accepted student decides to join the MUN Advanced program, he or she must take Model UN as an elective for the rest of their academic career at Mira Costa. The MUN booster club administers registration for the MUN Advanced program and coordinates many Model UN activities. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us.
